A poster campaign featuring well known stammerers has been launched by the British Stammering Association Scotland.
The first billboard, featuring Winston Churchill, was unveiled in Glasgow by journalist and author Jack Webster and former MSP for Dundee and Oxfam campaign manager John McAllion earlier this month. They were joined by the newly appointed convenor for the charity Frank Geoghegan-Quinn. All three men have personal experience of stammering.
The ads will appear on billboards and bus shelters in Glasgow and Edinburgh during November, and each will picture an iconic stammerer. These include Marilyn Monroe and Sir Isaac Newton. Their images will be accompanied by the slogan: "Please be patient, we all have something important to say."
Jan Anderson, development manager for the association in Scotland, said: "We want to raise awareness and understanding of stammering. The ads demonstrate that some pretty influential and inspirational figures have stammered and we hope, in illuminating this, to challenge misconceptions about people who stammer."
She added: "We also want to draw attention to the Scottish branch of the association and let people know they can now access support and encouragement there."
