Sector 'has vital role on climate'

Third sector organisations have a crucial role to play in tackling the problem of climate change, a document published this week says.

A paper by Stephen Hale, director of environmental charity the Green Alliance, says voluntary sector organisations can succeed where governments have failed in addressing global warming.

"The third sector spans community groups, national and international membership organisations, volunteers, trade unions, faith communities, social enterprises and co-ops," it says.

"The surge of leadership we need to create a new politics of climate change can come only from here. The sector has a historic opportunity to mobilise on this."
