Sector puts trustee boards on agenda

Voluntary sector representatives are to meet the Charity Commission tomorrow to discuss a possible code of practice for trustees.

The meeting, involving the NCVO, Acevo, and the Charity Trustee Network, will examine whether the sector needs a code of practice covering areas such as board structure and recruitment.

The Home Office is also preparing a governance strategy that will set out an agreed set of principles.

Acevo chief executive Stephen Bubb said: "Increasing professionalism demands good governance. But one size does not fit all. The commission must enable charities to adopt the structures and practices that best suit their needs."

One issue that the code will consider is the balance between executive and non-executive trustees on charity boards.
