Sheila McKechnie loses cancer battle

Shelter director Adam Sampson has paid tribute to Dame Sheila McKechnie, a former director of Shelter and lately director of the Consumers' Association, who died on 2 January after a six-year battle with cancer. She was 55.

Sampson said one of her proudest achievements was the establishment of the Foyer movement for young people in the UK, which aimed to end the cycle of homelessness and unemployment.

"Sheila's passionate and committed style transformed lives, and helped make Shelter the powerful voice it remains today."
