The site's co-founders, Chester Sinclare and Melissa Johnson, were introduced by a friend to WooWise, the agency behind the UK dating site They gave the agency a brief but worked closely with it on the design. The process took 12 months.

Design and content

The idea for was to create a three-step process for making donations: searching for charities, comparing their financial details and donating. The logo - featuring three hands in a circle - and the three pastel colours are intended give the site a neutral feel to reflect the wide range of charitable organisations that exist, from local animal charities to international aid organisations.

Special features

The website includes financial information on more than 200,000 UK-registered charities. It enables donors to search for charities by location, sector and name. Visitors can then click on a charity's entry and view information about its income and expenditure relating to trading, governance costs, charitable activities and securing donations. Charities can upload information and images to their entry on the site as a way of improving communication with potential donors. says:

"The site focuses on the comparative aspect, which lets donors view charity profiles, and on the transparency aspect, which enables charities to build trust with donors."
