Small Charities Coalition releases first Christmas advert

The organisation wants to ensure that the work of smaller charities does not go unnoticed over the festive period

The Small Charities Coalition has recorded its first Christmas advert in a bid to make sure smaller charities do not "go unnoticed" over the festive period.

The five charities that feature in the video, which will be hosted on the SCC website and the video-sharing website YouTube, are Ace of Clubs, a charity that works with vulnerable people in Lambeth, south London, the arts and community charity the Black Heroes Foundation, Greyhound Rescue Jersey, the Jersey Alzheimer's Association and the Theodora Children's Charity.

The advert was produced for free for the SCC by the advertising company Tigervision, whose previous clients include the English National Ballet.

The music was composed and performed by a volunteer, according to a statement from SCC.

Mandy Johnson, chief executive of the SCC, said: "We don't want to criticise the larger charities for the amount they spend on advertising, but we felt it was important that the Small Charities Coalition did something to ensure that small charities aren't forgotten during the festive period.

"Having previously been employed by larger charities, I was struck by the inequity that small charities face, particularly at Christmas, when many people consider making gifts to charity. "Small charities can’t afford to spend money on advertising, so the vital work they are doing in local communities across the UK could easily go unnoticed. I hope that this advert will help our small charity members remind their supporters to give."

The SCC works to support and inspire small charities across the UK, and has 8,700 members.
