Small South Yorkshire charities given route to Work Programme bids

South Yorkshire Work Programme Partnership from charity Sector Solutions will allow local charities to seek work from the initiative

Small charities and voluntary organisations in South Yorkshire will be able to bid for work from the government’s Work Programme though the charity Sector Solutions.

Sector Solutions has set up the South Yorkshire Work Programme Partnership, a coalition of local organisations that have the skills to help people get back to work.

The partnership covers Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster. It is likely to act as a subcontractor for organisations that win Work Programme contracts from the Department for Work and Pensions.

Those so far signed up to the partnership include Scoop Aid, Grow, the Yorkshire Trust, DrugTrain, The Learning Community, Doncaster West Development Trust and Bridge Employment.

Sector Solutions set up the partnership because it felt the size of smaller organisations might prevent them for bidding for this work, yet these local groups are often well placed to help the hardest to reach within their communities.

Andrew Coulthard, executive director at Sector Solutions, said: "Sector Solutions has gathered together the groups that are best suited to meet the needs of the long-term unemployed, and we are offering this support structure to the companies bidding to be on the framework."

Voluntary organisations have to be invited to join the partnership, but others can express an interest in joining. So far, about 40 organisations have expressed an interest or are in the process of applying.
