SNAPSHOT: Military muscle

The City of London Lord Mayor's Appeal for 2002 has called in the army to help raise money for its Square Smile Funday.

Members of the Honourable Artillery Company, the Territorial Army regiment based in the City, are to provide a band for the event on 26 September, which will include musicians and entertainers performing at prominent locations across the financial centre. City workers will be asked to buy a Funday Bowler Hat and companies will be encouraged to make a donation.

Proceeds from the sales of the blue hats will go to Barts Cancer Centre of Excellence at St Bartholomew's Hospital and a variety of mental health projects in London. Barts plans to transform the west wing of the hospital into a pioneering breast cancer unit with state-of-the-art screening equipment.
