SNAPSHOT: Poverty line

Supporters of the Jubilee Debt Campaign formed a human chain around St Phillip's Cathedral, Birmingham, on Friday to commemorate the fifth anniversary of 70,000 debt campaigners surrounding world leaders at the G8 summit. The coalition of 60 organisations, which also included Cafod, Tearfund and the World Development Movement, also launched the report Did the G8 Drop the Debt? The report claims that just 20 per cent of the amount pledged by G8 leaders four years ago has been met. It also calls for an end to conditions linked to debt relief that harm the poor, the creation of a world debt day and a fair procedure for poor countries if they become insolvent.
