The Social Enterprise Coalition wants "several thousand" organisations to adopt its social enterprise mark over the next few years, its deputy chair has said.
Steve Wyler, who is also chief executive of the Development Trusts Association and head of a committee that aims to improve the profile of social enterprise, said the coalition would launch a drive in the spring to raise awareness of the mark. The logo is intended for use by businesses that do not distribute their profits to shareholders and exist primarily for a social purpose.
"We expect the enterprises adopting the mark to include some of the very biggest brand names in social enterprise," said Wyler. "It will move from quite a small scale to something that will be commonly used by social enterprises."
The logo itself could also change, he added. "We're looking at changing the image of the mark," he said. "We hope to have a strong visual identity."
Wyler said the wider introduction of the mark would be a step towards much broader recognition of social enterprise.
