Sesnan, who is managing director of social enterprise leisure firm Greenwhich Leisure, is already chair of SEL. The social enterprise support body said that both he and Tranchell were so keen to chair the organisation it was agreed they should be allowed to do the job together.

“We are thrilled that two of the country’s leading social entrepreneurs will be contributing so vitally to Social Enterprise London,” said Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive of SEL.

Tranchell said she was delighted at her election as co-chair on the eve of the organisation’s 10th anniversary. “Together we have achieved a lot,” she said. “Ten years ago, social enterprise was unheard of. We have so much to celebrate and so much more to do.”
