A volunteer for a St Mungo’s homeless hostel has been remanded in custody amid allegations that he took part in looting in south London.

Barry Naine, 42, who works at a St Mungo’s hostel in Lewisham, is alleged to have broken into a Primark store in Peckham.

A spokesman for St Mungo’s confirmed that Naine was a volunteer and said the charity had "procedures in place" to deal with the matter.

He declined to comment further because legal proceedings were still taking place.

A number of charities suffered as a result of the recent riots in England, with some having buildings looted and damaged by fire.
