Most Admired Charity was the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, which makes grants to projects tackling social problems. Trust Secretary Stephen Pittam (pictured, right) collected the award.
Most Innovative Charity was won by Venturesome, a project of the the Charities Aid Foundation that offers loans and alternative finance to sector organisations. Director John Kingston (left) received the award.
The winners were chosen in an online poll by chief executives of the UK’s top 500 fundraising charities. The Royal Bank of Scotland Group sponsored the awards and hosted the ceremony at its City headquarters.
Pittam said the award was the first the trust had received in its 103 years, probably because it remained a Quaker organisation and preferred to work “in quiet ways”.
In her acceptance speech, Lumley quoted the Dalai Lama’s maxim that people should be reckless with charity and cooking. "Chuck it all up in the air, and see where it lands," she added.
