State of the Sector survey: how well does your organisation work with others?

Relationships with trustees fared badly

Compared with the last State of the Sector survey in May 2007, there has been a marked change for the worse in respondents' perceptions of the relationship between their organisations and their stakeholders.

The largest perceived decline since 2007 is in the relationship with trustees. In 2007, 33 per cent said their organisation worked extremely well with trustees, but in the 2009 survey this had shrunk to 25 per cent. The 2009 survey also revealed worsening relations with national government (down six percentage points on 2007) and corporations (down seven percentage points on 2007).

Eighteen per cent felt that relations with corporations were difficult. There were some improvements, however: respondents felt that the sector was working better with volunteers (up six percentage points on 2007) and with staff (up five percentage points on 2007).
