The manufacture of the new bag follows on from the charity’s award-winning 2007 campaign Bring our Bag Back, which saved £16,567 in spending on single-use plastic bags by offering a range of natural fibre reusable bags.

The new Spring Bobb plastic bag provides an alternative for shoppers and will help the charity in its aim to phase out single-use bags from its shops by 2009. Sue Ryder Care currently spends £100,000 a year on single-use bags.

“We extended our Bobb range of reusable bags to offer our customers more choice,” said Kay Barnes, recycling business development manager at the charity. “If the customer has forgotten to bring a bag with them on their shopping trip, we hope that a 10p donation for the reusable bag will be considered worth it to support the environment and our charitable work.”
