Sue Ryder Care makes climate change pledge

Healthcare charity Sue Ryder Care has signed up to the Every Action Counts coaltion's Third Sector Climate Change Declaration.

Sue Ryder’s 370 retail shops will attempt to reduce water usage and energy consumption, divert more waste from landfill and create green transport initiatives for its staff.

“As sustainability rises up the political agenda and the public becomes ever more environmentally conscious, climate change is an issue that organisations – commercial, public and third sector alike – can no longer ignore,” said Kay Barnes, business development manager at Sue Ryder Care.

“The declaration is a great initiative to encourage all third sector organisations to join forces and collectively reduce the industry’s carbon footprint to help combat climate change.”

Mark Walto, head of Every Action Counts, said he was pleased with the progress of the Third Sector Climate Change Declaration so far. “I’m delighted that the retail arm of Sue Ryder Care has joined the growing number of third sector organisations taking action on this issue,” he said.
