Sukhvinder Kaur-Stubbs to be chair of Volunteering England

Former chief executive of Barrow Cadbury Trust takes over from Mike Nussbaum in September

Sukhvinder Kaur-Stubbs, the former chief executive of the Barrow Cadbury Trust, has been appointed chair of volunteering charity Volunteering England.

She will take over the position in September from Mike Nussbaum, who has been in the role since 2004.

Stubbs resigned from the Barrow Cadbury Trust in February, saying she wanted to explore new opportunities while spending more time with her young daughter.

In a statement about her appointment at Volunteering England, Stubbs said volunteering was particularly important during lean times.

"There is widespread acceptance that volunteering provides opportunities and pathways into paid work," she said. "It is the cornerstone of responsible citizenship and we need a stronger infrastructure to support local grassroots activity."

Justin Davis Smith, chief executive of Volunteering England, said: "With Sukhvinder as chair, we believe Volunteering England is in the best possible position to make a real difference to volunteering and the issues it faces in the coming years."
