The Right Ethos, a recruitment company for campaigners, looked at the CVs of the 2,000 or so people on its books and found that of the 200 who mentioned a formal involvement with a political party, 45 per cent were linked to the Labour Party. A further 35 per cent were involved with the Liberal Democrats and 19 per cent with the Conservative Party.
The results are a reversal of a similar survey last year, when 45 per cent declared Lib Dem affiliations and 31 per cent Labour.
Jonathan Dearth, director of The Right Ethos and a former Lib Dem councillor, said the results suggested campaigners were moving towards an approach that sought to influence government from the inside.
