Tesco charity partnership raised £25m in three years

The retail giant had linked up with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation, and recently announced a new partnership with those two charities and Cancer Research UK

Tesco’s partnership with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation raised £25m in three years, the organisations have announced.

Half of the funds, which were mainly raised by Tesco employees and customers, have been used for projects to prevent type 2 diabetes and heart and circulatory disease, while the remainder has been split equally between the two charities.

The partnership, which ran from January 2015 until December last year, was overseen by a central team made up of staff from all three organisations.

An announcement from the central team about the partnership said its achievements included funding nine medical research projects on the prevention of heart disease and reaching about 43 million people with its healthy lifestyle messages.

Tesco announced last month that it was starting a new five-year partnership with Diabetes UK, the BHF and Cancer Research UK, with the aim of reducing the risk of disease by promoting healthy eating.

Jenna Hall, programme director for the partnership, said: "This partnership has achieved so much and demonstrates the power of bringing three organisations together to tackle one single issue."
