A third of donors cutting back, says Justgiving

Reduced donations from some, but more than half will continue to give the same amount

More than a third of donors are considering cutting back their donations to charity, according to new figures.

In a survey of people who had donated using fundraising website Justgiving, 39 per cent of 1,826 respondents said they were thinking about reducing what they gave during the next three months.

Twenty-nine per cent said they might give less, 7 per cent said they were considering cutting a lot and 3 per cent were considering stopping altogether.

However, 61 per cent were confident they would maintain their giving levels.

The poll was carried out between 1 January and 18 February as part of the website's Donor Attitudes To Giving In The Credit Crunch research, which will involve monthly surveys.

It also showed that 47 per cent had thought more about their giving in the previous three months than in the past. Eleven per cent had already "largely" cut back.
