Dallas Pounds

Who is she?

Dallas Pounds spent time as lead nurse for a community-based palliative care team before moving into management at Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust. She spent almost three years as an executive director at the HIV charity the Terrence Higgins Trust before in August 2013 becoming chief executive of the Royal Trinity Hospice, which provides end-of-life care in south-west London.

What has she done for the charity?

Pounds' strategic vision for Royal Trinity is to put a "business head on a charity heart". As part of this ethos, she has improved the charity's data collection to give patients a more personal service, overhauled its finance and human resources systems and improved communications with stakeholders. Pounds has also developed cost and pricing models so Royal Trinity can compete in the new NHS market, and has embraced innovative funding ideas such as transforming unused space into rental properties. She has a hands-on approach and regularly shadows the hospice's in-patient and community nurses, as well as working in its charity shop.

What else has she achieved?

Royal Trinity had one of its best fundraising years last year, raising £3.9m. Since she took charge, the hospice's standard of care has been rated "outstanding" by inspectors, and she has introduced a fair and transparent pay system for employees.

What did the judges say?

Phil Maguire, chief executive of the Prison Radio Association, said: "Pounds is clearly a compassionate, committed and very capable leader."
