What was the partnership?

The international aid agency Medair joined forces with the business intelligence software firm Qlik to improve humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Informal refugee settlements in the Bekaa Valley frequently move around because landowners return to their land to farm or refugees relocate to find casual labour. A lack of up-to-date information on locations, demographics and the specific needs of each settlement was making the coordination of aid difficult. A Qlik employee and supporter of Medair suggested the company’s software could help.

What did they do?

Qlik provided Medair with free use of its analytical software and ongoing support services. Qlik's employees visited several projects overseas where they worked with Medair local teams and were able to identify potential modifications that could further improve the application of their software in a humanitarian context. Qlik also provided Medair with significant financial donations, with coordinated regular employee fundraising efforts 100 per cent matched by the company.

What has been the impact of the partnership?

The partnership provided Syrian refugees in Lebanon with faster, greater, more tailored support than would have been possible otherwise. Medair was able to gather and analyse more detailed and accurate information on beneficiaries, assess needs more rapidly and make decisions more quickly. The charity could also prove more comprehensively to donors that it was delivering aid effectively. It has been funded to share its work with other NGOs in Lebanon and Jordan.

This partnership also helped Qlik fulfil its commitment to corporate social responsibility, raising awareness of its values, inspiring its employees and enhancing a positive image of the company.
