Third Sector Awards: Fundraising Team of the Year – WaterAid Corporate Partnerships Team

Awarded to a fundraising team that has worked effectively together to achieve or exceed its fundraising targets.

How much money was raised? In the past year WaterAid’s Corporate Partnerships Team’s work to engage the private sector has contributed to the raising of £8.3 million, £1 million over target.

What is the team’s approach? In addition to raising funds the team aims to drive corporate action on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) through its strategic partnerships. It uses The Business Case for WASH, a pioneering guide co-produced by WaterAid to help companies to understand and measure the economic benefits.  .

What did they do? The new business team secured five new partnerships, totalling £450,000 of support. A new partnership with the BMJ saw the medical journal support WaterAid as part of its Christmas charity appeal which reached 24 million readers and raised £40,000 in just two months.

The team launched a third Toilets Change Lives campaign with partner Kimberly Clark, to support WASH access across three cities in Bangladesh. In 2019 the campaign launched with 27 million branded packs totalling £139,000 in donations, in addition to WaterAid's messaging reaching millions across the UK. The team also brought to a conclusion WaterAid's eight-year partnership with HSBC, which contributed $50 million to WaterAid's work.

The strength of the team is exemplified by the number of partnership renewals that have been secured, notably with Fujifilm, the Wimbledon Foundation, Diageo and Eversheds Sutherland.

What did the judges say? “Well done to the team for exceeding targets and securing new partnerships along with award-winning renewals during challenging times.”

Highly commended
