Third Sector Awards shortlist revealed

Winners will be announced at a lunch in London on 17 September

Charity leaders in the running for chief executive of the year at the 2021 Third Sector Awards include Amanda Khozi Mukwashi of Christian Aid, Ava Easton of the Encephalitis Society and Adam Tulloch of the small arts charity Total Insight Theatre.

The awards, which recognise the achievements of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises, feature 29 categories including Fundraising Team of the Year and Best Charity Film.

This year’s awards also include two Covid-19-specific categories: one to recognise the best service delivery innovation during the pandemic and one to be awarded to an exceptional frontline team.

Charities in the running for Covid-19: Frontline Team include the Turkish Cypriot Community Association, the inclusive play centre Incredible Kids and the British Red Cross.

The 2021 judging panel was co-chaired by Sajda Mughal, chief executive and specialist adviser at the BAME women’s charity Jan Trust, and Emma Ratzer, chief executive of the social inclusion charity Access Community Trust.

Ratzer won chief executive of the year at the 2020 awards.

Due to the sheer volume of entries, there will be two awards each for Charity of the Year and Charity Chief Executive of the Year: one for organisations with a total annual income of more than £5m and the other for income of less than £5m.

The charity insurer Ansvar is the headline sponsor of this year’s Third Sector Awards and is supporting the categories Small Charity, Big Achiever and Charity of the Year.

The Good Agency is the award’s creative partner and supporter of the Big Impact Award.

Additional categories are supported by ATOS, Enthuse and Trust Impact.

“This year the Third Sector Awards received the highest number of entries we have seen in many years,” said Emily Burt, editor of Third Sector

“After such a challenging year for the sector, every finalist should feel incredibly proud of their achievements. We are looking forward to celebrating our winners in September.”

The awards ceremony will take place at a lunch and drinks reception on 17 September at The Londoner Hotel in Leicester Square.

Early bird tickets are available until 12 August.
