Third Sector launches survey of charity staff

A major annual survey looking at what it is like to work in the voluntary sector was launched today by Third Sector and Birdsong Charity Consulting.

The survey, called Charity Pulse, aims to get to the bottom of why staff turnover in the voluntary sector is on the rise – and consistently higher than either the private or the public sectors – at the same time as charities are lauded in the press as being the ideal places to work.

It will also look for variances between different sub-sectors, departments, age groups and regions, as well as examining whether flexible working makes a significant difference to job satisfaction.

Charity workers who fill in the online questionnaire will be able to access the results free of charge, and will be entered into a prize draw to win four free coaching sessions and a year’s subscription to Third Sector.

Charities will be able to buy benchmarked results setting their own performance against those of other similar charities. Only half of charities currently carry out any sort of staff satisfaction survey.

The online questionnaire will remain live until 27 April. The survey’s main findings will be reported in Third Sector in July.
