Three Stoke charities pass go

Three Stoke-on-Trent charities have picked up a Chance card only to find that they have landed on the Community Chest spaces on a special edition of the Monopoly board game.

Children's health charities Caudwell Children and the Donna Louise Trust, and the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, have been chosen by a local newspaper in the area to feature on the Stoke edition of the game. Other spaces will be allotted by polls in the newspaper.

Trudi Beswick, chief executive of Caudwell Children, said the news had come as a complete surprise. She said there was no money involved, but featuring in the game would raise awareness of the charity's work. "We're really thrilled about it," she said.

The game is expected to go on sale in October.
