Tribunal victory for trade union

Social landlord Pierhead Housing must recognise Unite as its formal union, a tribunal has ruled.

Unite took the case to the Central Arbitration Committee after discussions about setting up a voluntary agreement failed.

The committee's report said Pierhead had made it clear "it did not regard Unite as conducive to good industrial relations". But it ruled in Unite's favour after the union showed the majority of staff supported unionisation.

A spokeswoman for Pierhead said: "We now propose to establish a constructive working relationship with the union."
