Triodos Bank maps out its investments online

Depositers can see where their money is spent

A social lender has produced an online map of the investments it has made across the British Isles to make its investment strategy more transparent.

Triodos Bank has mapped more than 550 of its 650 investments in the UK and the Republic of Ireland so that its depositors can see exactly where their money goes. It says it is the first lender to make such a move and will update the remaining investments shortly.

"Transparency is one of our core values and this is another step in the right direction," said Bevis Watts, director of business banking at Triodos. "We would like to see other social lenders and mainstream lenders follow suit."

Watts said he hoped Triodos would soon be able to launch another site giving details of its micro-finance investments in 40 countries.
