TrusteeWorks service launches to recruit charity board members

Reach and Prospectus create 'low cost portal'

A bespoke trustee recruitment and governance consultancy service is being launched this week by volunteering charity Reach and third sector recruitment consultancy Prospectus.

Sarah King, chief executive of Reach, said TrusteeWorks would offer help with everything from writing trustee vacancy adverts to understanding the role of trustees. She said a database of governance advisers across the UK was also planned.

King said basic support would be inexpensive but would not be free because she did not want TrusteeWorks to be reliant on insecure grant funding - as the former Governance Hub, where she worked before, had been.

David Gold, chief executive of Prospectus, said existing support for trustee recruitment consisted of "low-cost portals" that were not well promoted.

"We aren't doing anything revolutionary - but we are really investing in it with time and money," he said.

Gold said there were still too many "friends of friends" on boards, but charities were beginning to recognise that good boards could be "transformational".
