UK and US fundraising bodies unite for conference first

The Institute of Fundraising and its US equivalent, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, are holding a joint conference on the importance of global philanthropy.

It is the first time the institue and the Association of Fundraising Professionals have come together to run a conference.

The event, which will take place in London in November, will focus on helping fundraisers to acquire a better understanding of major donors. It will aim to help them to develop stronger relationships with major donors and maximise their giving potential.

Speakers and delegates from North America, Europe and Asia will attend the conference to share experiences, knowledge and best practice approaches from around the globe.

Talks will cover issues such as managing donor expectations, recruiting and developing successful major donor fundraisers and the impact of culture on major donor fundraising.

Major donors play a critical role in fundraising and philanthropy, and the conference will offer unrivalled networking opportunities, inspiration, lateral thinking and best-practice-sharing that crosses cultures, sectors and economies, said Lindsay Boswell, chief executive of the Institute of Fundraising. The better charities can understand and work with major donors, the more impact major donors will have in their giving.
