Urban Forum urges grants security for social regeneration

Regeneration body Urban Forum has called for more money so that voluntary sector activities funded by the doomed Single Regeneration Budget can survive.

Urban Forum, which represents voluntary and community groups involved in regeneration, was commissioned 18 months ago by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to track the effect on the sector of the transfer of the Single Regeneration Budget to the Regional Development Agencies. The new fund will be called the 'single pot'.

Some SRB projects still have two years to run. Urban Forum said: "Funds are needed to ensure that programmes which have been identified as beneficial are given adequate time to transfer to new funding arrangements."

It also wants Regional Development Agencies to be given targets by the Government. "These agencies are business-led. A lot of sector projects will go, unless the Government sets targets for social regeneration."
