US base for Army Benevolent Fund

The British Army Benevolent Fund is set to launch a US branch for expatriate former soldiers living in the country.

The British Army Benevolent Fund America (Babfa) will provide financial and practical support to British former soldiers and their families, and raise awareness of the charity's work among American citizens.

"The fund already has a small but significant number of supporters in the expatriate communities in the US," said Keith Taylor, the British Korean War veteran who will manage Babfa's first volunteer community.

"I believe we have the potential to attract a great many more."

Babfa will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and will initially organise fundraising events in the New England region. It will be launched at the Yale Club in New York on 18 July.
