Barnardo’s, the UK’s biggest children’s charity, helps children in poverty, supports young carers and helps families looking to foster or adopt.
CEO, Javed Khan, explained the importance of risk management across the charity.
Javed mentions a priority with safeguarding - a concern that must be at the forefront when working with the most vulnerable children and young people in society. Staff and volunteers must remain vigilant with regular refresher training and by keeping a watchful eye on what the best practise is in the third sector.
Safeguarding also relates to the protection of data and keeping computer systems secure. Volunteer and donor data needs to be protected as does service user data. By having a clear reporting framework and learning from past mistakes, charities are able to move forward with not only their online systems but also their safeguarding networks.
