As headline sponsor of the Third Sector Awards, Markel had the opportunity to speak to a number of charities at the recent event to find out more about the risks they face and how they manage them.
Auditory Verbal UK
Auditory Verbal UK is a charity that works with deaf babies and young children, to help them to listen and speak using Auditory Verbal Therapy.
In this video Anita Grover, Chief Executive of Auditory Verbal UK, explains that the board of trustees have to mitigate against a wide range of risks including, financial, governance, safeguarding and data protection. Anita discusses how reputational risks are a key issue for Auditory Verbal because unlike businesses in the corporate sector, small charities may not have the experience to mitigate these risks should they arise.
Career Connect
Career Connect is a North West charity supporting young people and adults to start and develop their careers.
Kieran Gordan, Chief Executive of Career Connect, highlights safeguarding as a major risk for the organisation as they work with a lot of children and vulnerable adults. Kieran also explains how they manage cyber risk and data protection as another key area of concern.
Markel have produced a series of guides with further information on the areas of risk highlighted in these videos.
The first guide on data protection is available now. Information on mitigating risk, reputational risk and safeguarding will follow in the coming weeks.
