Vision 2020 targets corporate donors for blindness drive

Vision 2020, a collaboration of major organisations dealing with avoidable blindness, is starting a major push this year to increase fundraising and raise its profile.

The organisation will target 15 to 20 global companies for funding, focusing initially on eyecare companies.

Mike Whitlam, who joined Vision 2020 as its first chief executive in March, said: "In the business plan we have just drawn up, we are targeting eight companies within the next 12 months and more over the next couple of years. We will be approaching companies with the idea that donating money to us has a marketing benefit for them."

The charity is in discussions about the possibility of a global fundraising concert and a global portal about eyecare, linking existing web sites about eyecare around the world.
