Voluntary bodies ponder a merger

Two voluntary organisations in Kent are to merge because of increasingly scarce funding opportunities.

The boards of Sevenoaks Volunteer Development Agency and Voluntary Action West Kent, formerly West Kent CVS, have agreed a merger in principle.

The move comes after five councils for voluntary service in Cumbria merged to form England's first county-wide CVS. The chief executives of SVDA and Vawk, respectively Mandy Wynne and Caroline Shaw, said that core funding was becoming increasingly hard to find.

"We are exploring ways in which to make ourselves more efficient," their statement said. A decision is expected by the autumn.
