Volunteers' Week focuses on reward and recognition

Volunteers' Week this year will use the strapline "Recognise, Reward and Recruit". It aims to encourage existing volunteers to continue supporting the sector and ask more people to lend their services.

Organised by a group of voluntary organisations, including the National Centre for Volunteering, NAVB and the Active Community Unit, the week begins on Friday, 7 June. It will see a range of national and regional events hosted by organisations such as the Red Cross, Age Concern and the RNIB.

Corporate sponsors include Ford, Marks %26 Spencer and Abbey National.

Employee Volunteering Day on 13 June, organised by NCV, will involve charities, hospital staff and employees from companies such as Microsoft and Unilever.

"Without the support of volunteers, many services would grind to a halt,

said Christopher Spence, chief executive at NCV.
