Entries for the 2017 awards, run by Kingston Smith and Bournemouth University and which are valued at an estimated £150,000 in production, are now open

The videos created by film students for the two winning charities of the Creative Vision Award have been revealed at the same time as a call for entries for the 2017 prize.

The award, which is organised by accountancy firm Kingston Smith and Bournemouth University, offers two charities the chance to each receive a bespoke animated short film worth an estimated £150,000. The films are created by undergraduates using VFX and animation to tell a story that communicates specific key messages identified by the charities.

This year's winning charities were the national domestic violence charity Refuge and the arts charity Create.

The Alpaca Chinos, the winning team of film students from Bournemouth University that produced Refuge’s film, created a toy animation set in a child’s bedroom, which depicts a woman trapped because of domestic violence. Team Pablo produced a film reflecting the sense of empowerment that Create’s workshops bring to young carers, who often feel isolated by the responsibility they carry.

Previous winners have reported running successful awareness-raising campaigns after receiving the awards. Last year a film for Anthony Nolan, designed to bust the myths associated with stem-cell donation and using the hashtag #donatingisntscary, led to nearly 300 new donors coming onto its register as a direct result of having seen the winning film. The film was viewed more than 25,000 times on YouTube and Facebook and was deemed a huge success by Anthony Nolan’s marketing and engagement teams.

Meanwhile, the films created for Dyslexia Action achieved a Facebook reach of almost a million and a Twitter reach of more than 25,000, with almost 40,000 YouTube views within the first five months. The winning film was also played at every Everyman Cinema across the country for a week in April this year.
