Website to offer free surplus stock

Charities offered items on a first-come, first-served basis

Charities are being offered free surplus stock from UK businesses through a new website.

Firms can list unwanted stock, such as clothing or furniture, on Charities can then claim it on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organisations that use the site must agree to use the items to support beneficiaries and not to sell them for profit.

The not-for-profit website was launched by Leicester-based charity Konnect9, which distributes surplus business stock to organisations and projects worldwide.

Rama Bhalla, director of the website, said it eased pressure on Konnect9's services and allowed charities and businesses to communicate directly.

"Konnect9 is limited by the size of its warehouse and the amount of collections and deliveries it can make," he said. "This new website solves the problem."
