Website predicts the future of charity fundraising

Fundraising Scenarios offers view of 2020

Fundraisers are being offered the chance to predict the future on a new website called Fundraising Scenarios.

Created by the Management Centre consultancy, it allows fundraisers and sector experts to put forward their ideas about how fundraising will look in 2020.

The results are intended to inform "flexible strategic planning" among charities, according to the Management Centre.

"Scenario planning is a highly effective way of planning for the future in uncertain times, allowing leaders to switch strategy from one scenario to another," said Bernard Ross, director of the consultancy.

Diverging views have already been expressed on the site. Chris Washington-Sare, head of fundraising at Greenpeace Australia Pacific, has suggested "influential bloggers" will be crucial to charities.

But Jonathon Grapsas, regional director of Pareto Fundraising North America, has said: "We need to stop believing that technology will lead to the promised land."

Ross, who predicts that charities will have to measure their impact on the environment, said diverging views would be grouped into a number of alternative scenarios as the website grew.
