Welsh assembly calls for closer third sector links

The National Assembly for Wales is encouraging councils, charities and companies to work together more closely.

The assembly has produced new guidance, entitled The Third Dimension – A Strategic Action Plan, which calls for more private-sector workers to get involved in volunteering, mentoring and secondment.

"I believe more engagement with the private sector should be a key priority for the third sector," Leighton Andrews, deputy regeneration minister, told an event for businesses and voluntary organisations.

"Such partnerships will contribute to the many social and regeneration programmes that we already have in place."

Last month, the assembly released a report that concluded that it should improve its voluntary sector funding by reviewing its funding criteria, simplifying applications and developing an online information service (Third Sector Online, 21 May).
