100m relays raised money for Gaza

The Action for Brazil's Children Trust is organising a Big City Sleep at Spitalfields in east London on 19 November. It is hoped that the 12-hour sponsored sleepout, which will feature Brazilian entertainment, will raise £20,000 for the charity. People will be asked to raise at least £150 to take part.

Jonathan Douglas, director of the National Literacy Trust, spent an entire day in silence on 5 November to raise money for the charity. He was aiming to raise £1,000 in sponsorship.

The children's charity Brathay Trust launches its two-week online Christmas auction this week in Cumbria. It is aiming to raise £15,000 by selling gifts on eBay, including a guided tour of Morecambe by the the son of the comedian Eric Morecambe.

More than 2,000 people took part in a series of 100 metre relays to raise money for children's medical, educational and social welfare projects in Gaza during October. The relays, organised by the welfare charities Global Peace and Unity, Interpal and iF Charity, were held in London, Birmingham, Bradford and Gaza. They helped to raise more than £11,000.
