A group of nine friends have completed a cycle relay from Essex to Sicily and a climb up Mount Etna to raise £5,000 for Autism Anglia. It took the team a week to complete the 1,700-mile journey, with team members taking turns to cycle.

As part of October's Breast Cancer Awareness month, Breast Cancer Care is asking people to make an 'energy pledge', such as taking the stairs instead of a lift. For every participant that tweets their pledge on Twitter with the hashtag #PinkEnergy, battery company Energizer will donate £1 to the charity.

The Hospice of St Francis, near Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, is asking locals to take part in a sponsored event that will see them either walk over 800 degsC hot coals or four metres of smashed glass on 11 November. Those taking part must pay £30 to enter and raise at least £200.

Twenty-four members of Ladies Circle, a national network of local clubs for women, rode Blackpool's PepsiMax Big One rollercoaster dressed in pink bras and tutus to raise cash for the Genesis Appeal, a charity that is dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer.
