As part of Third Sector Jobs’ Wonderful Workplaces initiative, we found out more about the campaign manager job opportunity at Barrow Cadbury Trust and why it’s an exciting time to join them.

What is the Fair by Design Campaign?

Currently, people in poverty pay a premium for goods and services such as insurance, energy, and loans. Our new Fair by Design (FBD) Campaign has a bold ambition to remove this ‘poverty premium’ in a decade, and we are looking for a campaign manager to work with the campaign’s director to achieve this, working in close collaboration with the Fair By Design Venture Fund. FBD is split into two strands that tackle the issue from different perspectives and together we hope will achieve the mission of the campaign (formerly known as the Change Programme) and the Venture Fund.

What does the campaign manager role involve?

The campaign manager will play a key role in developing and maintaining partnerships with key anti-poverty premium stakeholders, regulators, think tanks, academic institutions, and corporate sector providers of goods and services which carry a poverty premium. You will also work with people who have personal experiences of poverty and the poverty premium. You will be involved in commissioning, managing and sourcing research or other pieces of related work, acting as a focal point for dissemination of information around the campaign, providing policy advice and communications support, and using strategic communications to raise the profile of the campaign.

What kind of person would this role be suited to?

You will have a good level of knowledge of poverty issues in the UK and the poverty premium in particular, as well as experience of impactful campaigning activities in more or more civil society organisations and coalitions. You need excellent interpersonal, communications and campaigning skills, alongside a personal commitment to the promotion of social justice and equality.

Why would someone want to work for Barrow Cadbury Trust as a campaign manager?

This is an exciting opportunity to tackle something which is both very tangible and complex at the same time. The Fair by Design Campaign manager will have a fair amount of autonomy and the opportunity to help create influence at both the highest and most practical levels. The Trust is recognised for its thoughtful approach, its partnership working and the quality of what it does. Joining the Trust brings both responsibility and opportunity, particularly as we develop and deliver this new programme of work.

Sum up what it’s like to work for Barrow Cadbury Trust

We are a close-knit and highly motivated team, bringing a diversity of skills and experience to our social justice work. Joining the Trust means that you will be joining an organisation which has a depth of expertise, a breadth of connection, a supportive and reflective learning ethos, a skilled and experienced governing body, a senior management team and wider staff group.
