Women's groups 'need more cash'

The Women's Resource Centre is calling on the Government to provide more funding for women's voluntary organisations. The umbrella organisation for women's groups is backing an Early Day Motion, tabled by MP Emily Thornberry on 22 June, calling for immediate action on funding for women's organisations.

The motion calls on the Government to "acknowledge that women continue to face systematic disadvantage because of their gender, and to take immediate action to maximise funding of the women's voluntary and community sector".

Tania Pouwhare, policy co-ordinator at WRC, said: "Women's groups work with some of the most vulnerable women in the country, yet only 1.2 per cent of sector funding from the Government goes to them."
