Young people help NCH to hire trustees

Children's charity NCH has involved young people who use its services in the recruitment of new trustees for the first time.

During the recruitment process, the group of young people were given the chance to devise a series of interview questions, evaluate candidates' performance, and submit their comments in a written document.

Two young people also came to London to meet the senior trustees responsible for the new appointments, to present the views of the wider group of young people.

The charity has now appointed five new trustees to work with the 15-strong existing board in establishing a fresh strategic direction for NCH.

The new trustees are Garron Baines, who set up Channel 4 News; Chris Cairns, national director of charity audits at Blueprint Audits; Carol Hampson, who has 20 years' experience in publishing and volunteers with autistic children; performance management specialist Alison Kelly; and former director of Essex social services Michael Leadbetter.
